Staff-Therapists:
Colleen Sweeney MSW, ACSW, LICSW
Approach:
I have an eclectic orientation to the therapeutic process, utilizing cognitive behavioral techniques, education, support, guidance, insight, reflection and other tools, depending on the needs of the client. The relationship between client and therapist is crucial to a positive outcome for clients. The client’s phase of life, presenting problem, history, and resources (strengths and weaknesses) are all taken into consideration when setting goals and establishing a contract for therapy.
Population:
I work with adults and adolescents, ages 12 through 101. Collaborating, as needed, with schools, primary care physicians, courts, hospitals and loved ones.
Experience:
I have been practicing since 1986. I have an extensive medical background, focusing on chronic and acute medical conditions, and their impact on the individuals, families and other facets of life, loss and death. I have worked with the military, teaching anger management and parenting courses, and helping clients with issues specific to military life (isolation, deployment, transition, adjustment…). I have worked in schools, hospitals, long term care facilities, outpatient settings, and in client’s homes when necessary.
Education:
Masters degree in Social Work from Simmons College in 1986
Bachelor of Science from Bridgewater State College 1984— Major in Social Work and a Minor in Sociology
