Staff-Therapists:
Mitch Dembowski, LMHC

I am a Masters Level Therapist with a cognitive and behavioral orientation to therapy. I have experience working with a wide range of individuals. I am trained to work with adolescents and adults. I have extensive experience with behavioral issues, mood and anxiety disorders, as well as developmental issues of adolescents. I work with individuals in areas of stress management, and have experience working with issues of bullying, as well as domestic violence. A strong interest of mine is in working with families and relational issues; as well as with families considering adoption. I also enjoy work with families and children with adoption related issues.
Individual Therapy
My work with individuals is to help clearly define issues, recognize behavioral patterns, and identify barriers that may prevent change. Possible contributing issues specific to behavioral and environmental factors are further explored. From this, measured expectations and realistic goals can be established. Personal accountability is emphasized, while encouraging individual growth. I believe in a client-centered approach that validates the individual, explores alternative responses, and uses humor when appropriate. The initial goal is to eliminate barriers to allow change to occur. The long-term goal is to become more efficient and effective in managing stress, and more skilled in addressing life issues.
Early Childhood and Parent Training
Although parenting a child in the early years in life can be extremely gratifying, this period can also be particularly challenging for the parents, as well as for the child. An interest of mine in recent years has been to work with families to further develop positive parenting skills, and work with their children specific to issues within the home, social and school environments.
My work with families is to provide support to parents, to establish clear strategies, while setting realistic goals. I work with the children within the family, and then collectively with all family members. Strategies are established to define consistent and realistic expectations within the family. Emphasis is to assist parents to provide consistent, predictable, and measured responses. This will allow the child to assume a greater sense of personal responsibility, and assist to establish healthy personal and social boundaries. The goal is to further develop positive values for the child, and attain a greater sense of individual harmony within the family.
