Staff-Therapists:
Tali Silver, M.A. LMHC
I am a Masters level Expressive Therapist and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
I provide brief and long term individual therapy for young and mature adults who come to therapy looking for better ways of coping, as their life challenges them to change and grow. I treat anxiety and depression, adjustment and relationship issues, parenting, managing stress and anger, transitions, trauma and grief.
My Approach
My approach combines a cognitive-behavioral orientation (substituting harmful behaviors and thoughts with healthier ones), psychodynamics (understanding the origins of our patterns of relating in order to reshape them), and Jungian psychology (integrating the unconscious mind as a source of healing). I am a holistic practitioner; this means that I consider developing mind-body awareness as a key to improving mental health. As an expressive therapist, I encourage creative outlets as means of self care and empowerment. Being an immigrant, I am interested in cultural influences, individual resiliency, and their interplay as we deal with situations that make us feel out of place.
Therapy is a joint endeavor; our first task is to figure out how to best collaborate. During our initial meeting, we will discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, your current circumstances and pertinent background information. We will clarify your expectations from therapy and your goals. Our continuing conversations may include developing strategies for managing emotions, coping with anxiety and stress, learning to relax, and working towards improving your relationships. We will look at issues from different perspectives, and devise ways for you to try out new behaviors. Overcoming some problems may require a longer commitment to therapy. In these instances we will look to illuminate what lies beneath the surface and affects your present situation. Talking about the past, working with dreams and free associations can be helpful at different times.
Training and Experience
I received my masters in expressive Therapy from Lesley University in 1988 and my mental health counseling license in 1997. I trained working with chronic mental illnesses, pain and aging. I have also worked in residences and day programs for adults with an array of disturbances, including eating disorders and developmental delays. I teach and supervise graduate and undergraduate students and provide psychotherapy in private practice
My Schedule at Wilmington Family Service
I work on Fridays and Sundays 9am-5pm. In case you require medication, I will refer you to a prescribing clinician from the practice.
