Staff-Therapists:
Victoria Kando, MA, LMHC
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a focus in Expressive Art Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The great thing about Expressive Therapy is that there is no one specific population because it is so versatile. It can be used with many different populations and in many different ways. Populations that I work with include a full range of clients from children and adolescents to young adults and families. Several areas of treatment I specialize in include Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, PTSD, ADHD, Grief and Loss and Adoption. I have a Certification in Trauma and Trauma Informed Care.
Expressive Therapy
This form of therapy utilizes different art forms such as visual expression, painting, drawing, clay work, as well as dance, movement, music, writing and many other mediums. These tools aid people in expressing themselves when they are unable to verbalize emotions, identify what is going on internally, or when talking is just not enough.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
In terms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), my approach is person centered. This means that I work hard to create a comfortable and non-judgmental environment where I work with each person to identify issues and the solutions that work best for each individual. I try to help clients to identify and replace the negative thought/behavior patterns with healthy and positive choices.
Training
I graduated from Lesley University in 2006 with a Master of Arts in Expressive Therapies. I have been licensed since 2009 and I am a Certified Trauma Specialist. I have five years experience in outpatient treatment including three years as the leading therapist in a residential program. This included a variety of clients including children, adolescents, young adults and families, tailoring sessions to each unique individual and/or group setting.
